About

Walkiees was born in 2012 from a desire to make discovering dog walks easier. 10 years on, Walkiees remains the most popular way for dog owners to find and share dog walks. With contributions from members all across the UK, we have details of over 1200 dog walks ranging from mountain trails to local parks.

Where it all started

Back in 2006 I was fresh out of training as the newest Detection Dog handler for HM Customs & Excise (Border Force as it is now known).

Based on the South Coast near The New Forest we had plenty of local walks for exercise. However as the years passed deployments away from home became more frequent. I'd search for information about dog walks local to the area I was staying but consistently came up short.

So I set about creating the resource that I wanted but couldn't find. A place for responsible dog owners to discover and share dog walks with others. It took a few years, I learned how to code and in April 2012 Walkiees was opened.

Ten years on and Walkiees remains my passion project. It's still run by just myself but it has grown to a community of over 50,000 dog owners all helping each other to discover and explore new places to walk.

There's lots planned for the next year, so stayed tuned and thank you for your support over the past decade.
